QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU START
Clarity on fit, data, evaluation, and delivery.
Start with a specific user decision or workflow, an accessible and permitted data source, a measurable baseline, and an accountable owner. A focused readiness assessment helps determine whether AI is useful and what a pilot must prove.
Predictive AI estimates a class, score, or future value. Generative AI creates outputs such as text or summaries. Agentic workflows combine model reasoning with permitted tools and state to carry out bounded steps. A solution can combine these patterns, with appropriate review controls.
Consider retrieval-augmented generation when answers need current or permission-controlled source information and citations. Consider fine-tuning for a defined model behavior or task supported by suitable training data. They can be combined, but both need evaluation; neither guarantees accurate answers.
Agree representative user cases and a baseline before development. Evaluate task quality, groundedness, failure and escalation behavior, access boundaries, latency, cost, and user acceptance. For predictive models, also examine relevant error measures and performance across important segments.
An architecture can be designed around authorized data access, identity propagation, retrieval filtering, encryption, retention, and audit needs. Hosting location, provider terms, network boundaries, and data handling must be assessed for the specific engagement.
Production readiness includes repeatable evaluations, versioned artifacts, deployment and rollback controls, operational ownership, monitoring, incident handling, and user support. Define release gates and acceptance evidence before expanding the scope.
Data readiness, integration complexity, evaluation requirements, model and hosting choices, security review, user experience, and operating expectations all affect scope. An assessment should establish dependencies and an estimate; this page does not promise a fixed duration or price.
